Meet
Kim Rinehardt, CPDT-KA

For Kim, dogs and dog training are not merely a vocation, but a pleasure and a true passion. In addition to donating her time and expertise to various dog causes and rescues, she's opened her home to several foster dogs
and helps to find new homes for homeless animals.
As well as training dogs, Kim is the author of two blogs about dog training and other pet related issues; and along with her good friend and fellow dog trainer Laura, hosts the podcast series Doggie Dish, where they discuss a variety
of dog behavior and training topics.
She currently shares her home with her own lovable "pack" of dogs, her orange tabby cat, "Cheddar" and the newest member of the household,
senior citizen cat, "Kona."

A member of The Association of Pet Dog Trainers,
the International Association of Aniamal Behavior Consultants,
and a Certified Professional Dog Trainer
Behavior Consultant and Dog Trainer
Since she was a small child, Kim has loved animals of all kinds, so it was only natural that once she became an adult she would find some way of working with them on a daily basis. After training her first dog in 1978 she discovered she had an aptitude for the process of teaching dogs and was "bitten by the training bug."
Working with dogs professionally for over 30 years, Kim has welcomed the opportunity to increase her "dog knowledge" by continously tackling new challenges. The number and variety of her experiences has given her a keen insight into what motivates dogs and an uncanny ability to "read" dog behavior: both valuable skills when working with and helping others with their pets.
Kim has worked with dogs in a variety of different ways. In addition to training dogs and instructing people, she is also an award winning professional pet groomer, has cleaned pets teeth without anesthesia, and has experience tatooing dogs. She's has worked at a cage-free doggie daycare facility and as a swim technician at a canine hydrotherapy and physical rehab center.
Her dog training experiences include working dogs at a variety of dog sports and she has won many awards and titles. Her interests have included obedience competition, dog aglity, English working trials, scent work and stock work.
To stay current with the latest
techniques and research, Kim regulary attends training seminars
and reads a large variety of books
and periodicals about dog behavior
and training each year. She also confers with a large network of dog health and behavior professionals.
In her own words:
As a trainer and dog lover myself, I believe the most common issues that pet owners encounter stem from confusion...the confusion that arises when you combine two different species in one household. Dogs aren’t people and people aren’t dogs; each has their own individual and essential way of viewing the world. My goal is to teach people a better understanding of these differences in perspective and to develop a line of communication that both can clearly and easily understand. In doing so, I strive to connect people with their pets: to strengthen the human/animal bond and create a harmonious living situation that satisfies the needs of both.
Keeping it positive, keeps it fun!
~Kim
