They say a picture's worth a thousand words... 

Many of the dogs featured in the outdoor photos in this gallery are not wearing leashes. 
That's because a well trained dog should be trustworthy with or without a leash attached to them.    

There are also no electronic collars on any of the dogs in this photo gallery. It shouldn't be necessary to use a shock collar to have a reliable dog...this is true of any breed, no matter what others might tell you.  If you invest the time and use good motivational training methods, your dog can learn to be reliable in off leash situations. *
